How To Be Grateful: 3 Keys to Gratitude

The month of November is forever linked to Gratitude in the United States, with Thanksgiving as the holiday driving the sentiment, and hopefully turning our hearts toward such a state of being and offering. Gratitude is such a simple practice that it feels almost too basic to consider one of the highest art forms of living, yet those that are grateful consistently reach the greatest peace one could hope for in life. Here are 3 Keys, in no particular order, to to Gratitude as a habitual practice that will make life that much richer and more meaningful: 1. Journal Keeping When days are extra grueling, all does not go right, and the world is seemingly falling apart, no practice is more relieving or satisfying than writing in a journal.  Like a trusted friend, the journal keeps our greatest secrets, most outrageous thoughts, experiences, and dramatic stories, in one place where others dare not go. As one scribbles and scratches eloquently the challenges of a defeated day, the emptiness that seems to engulf our minds and hearts, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel, suddenly the journal becomes grounds for moving toward tomorrow with a brighter hope,

On the Eve of September 11th

On the Eve of September 11th On the Eve of September 11 I am reflective of the feelings I had the day prior, where I was, and assume you remember where you were as well. I felt a very casual, even entitled sense of safety my entire life. Nothing ever made me question it. I figured nothing too terrible could ever happen to me, or my country, as the worst was past us. 2001 was a most significant year in my life: Married in June to the woman of my dreams, landed a Las Vegas job with “Legends in Concert” in July and was sent on the touring troupe to Myrtle Beach, SC to perform as Ricky Martin for the summer.  August flew by as I performed nightly and gained a quick 20 lbs due to my wife’s incredible cooking.  By September 9th my gig was over. Our friends, the Wayne & Yara Selph Family, had allowed us to stay in their vacation home on Surfside Beach, SC from early August through September.  Our flight home to Salt Lake City, UT was scheduled for September 12, and so Tami and I planned to go see a part of the south
