How To Be Grateful: 3 Keys to Gratitude

The month of November is forever linked to Gratitude in the United States, with Thanksgiving as the holiday driving the sentiment, and hopefully turning our hearts toward such a state of being and offering. Gratitude is such a simple practice that it feels almost too basic to consider one of the highest art forms of living, yet those that are grateful consistently reach the greatest peace one could hope for in life. Here are 3 Keys, in no particular order, to to Gratitude as a habitual practice that will make life that much richer and more meaningful: 1. Journal Keeping When days are extra grueling, all does not go right, and the world is seemingly falling apart, no practice is more relieving or satisfying than writing in a journal.  Like a trusted friend, the journal keeps our greatest secrets, most outrageous thoughts, experiences, and dramatic stories, in one place where others dare not go. As one scribbles and scratches eloquently the challenges of a defeated day, the emptiness that seems to engulf our minds and hearts, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel, suddenly the journal becomes grounds for moving toward tomorrow with a brighter hope,

How To Be Happy: 5 Keys To True Happiness

The most popular song of the past year rings true for many reasons. “Happy” is something we strive for, but often aren’t sure we are doing correctly.  “Clap along if you feel that happiness is in you…because I’m happy!” Pharrell brings it, you see the joy on the person dancing along, you feel the pure fun oozing out of the entire song.  It’s a great one, although unfortunately it is already so overplayed it now steps into the immortal realm of, “Oh man, that song again?”  (but I still love it anyway) I am surrounded by happy people. Sure, there are negative people here and there, but most of the time I find I’m around happy people. If you are feeling unhappy, or just need a reminder of a few pointers to getting out of a rut where the sun just doesn’t seem to shine your way, here are 5 Keys to True Happiness I have seen in the lives of others as well as my own.   1 – Be Grateful In a few weeks we will celebrate the Holiday known as Thanksgiving.  November is generally considered the month of Gratitude. How about a Life of Gratitude?  It

I’m Surrounded By Greatness

I began work this morning and went into my NEW Daily Ritual: Opening the Scriptures and Saying a Prayer. Over the past few years my office routine has consisted of much busy-ness, which led to more craziness, which spitefully becomes laziness for doing what should have been done.   Despite the effectiveness I can occasionally capture I am normally lucky to get much done that really needs to be done (Stephen Covey would be dry heaving knowing I’m this way since we’re “tight” – actually I mean tight as in I’ve read his books and one time his wife saw me perform but left in the middle because the music was too loud). This past week I taught a lesson at Church and asked how the men in the audience start their day.  One fellow, whom I greatly admire, said he starts his office day, before jumping into the tasks at hand, with a Spiritual Communion of Scripture & Prayer.  I liked the idea, committed to do it, and have been grateful for an awesome week. In the Scriptures I am Surrounded by Greatness, and especially in Prayer I am Surrounded by Greatness! In my community I am surrounded by Greatness.
